Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if this is the right service for me?

Medical teams commonly request a psychological evaluation for people to begin or continue hormones, receive gender confirmation surgery, or as a part of medical transition. Some common terms you may hear are: letter of support, hormone readiness assessment, letter of support for surgery, or a surgery referral assessment. If this is something your medical team is requesting, you are in the right place.

I do not want to be a roadblock for you on your journey. We will use this time to discuss what the transition process means for you and answer questions you may have.

I prioritize these evaluations and get reports back as soon as I can so you can continue on your journey.

What are the details of the visit?

  • Typically, this service consists of a 60-120 minute interview, some self-report measures, and a review of medical records.

  • Following the interview, I will complete a written report and send it to you via a secure client portal. I can also email a copy to your medical providers office on request.

  • This visit is a flat charge of $350.

What happens if I want therapy?

Engaging with medical systems can bring on stress and anxiety, or activate past negative experiences with medical care. It may be helpful to have additional support throughout this process. Additionally, people can also find it beneficial to have an advocate throughout this process.

If you have any questions, or think therapy may be helpful to you, we can discuss it when we speak.

In the room with DR. TAHLER

We will work together. I will bring my experience, encouragement, and support. At the same time, you bring your unique life experience and knowledge to the space. Both perspectives are equal and important to establishing the partnership of therapy.

With this in mind, I will listen to what is and is not working. I always welcome your feedback, if you are comfortable sharing it. My goal is to ensure a safe space for you. With your safety in mind, I think it is important to review my philosophy when it comes to queer and trans/gender non-binary care specifically. I consider all gender and orientation identities part of my family/community. I know there are unique experiences and concerns to the individual and that there is no “gay” or “trans” monolith. As a member of the community myself, I strive to fight for and along side you and strive to remove the barriers that have been placed in our way.

Personally, I identify as a queer, Jewish, cisgender woman (she/her/hers pronouns). I welcome conversations of identity into the therapeutic space, as we do not exist in a vacuum and the greater systems we interact with have an effect on our mental and physical health. I approach therapy from a feminist and culturally humble perspective and tailor evidence-based practices to the individual in front of me.

I was lucky enough to attend a graduate school that offered specific courses on providing gender affirming care and treatment. I have build on this knowledge through trainings in the community and advocating for these populations where I work. For example, I have established several gender care clinics within medical practices where I was working. If you have additional questions about my experience please ask during the consultation.
